Eugene Collias served as an oceanographer in the Department of Oceanograph at the University of Washington. He wrote and contributed to dozens of publications and technical reports concerned with oceanographic research in the Puget Sound and arctic waters off Alaska.
Two films documenting the work of the Beaufort Sea Expedition originally captured in 1951 and 1952. The photography was provided by Eugene Collias and John Lincoln while working in the Department of Oceanography at the University of Washington. The footage on the two film reels was later transferred to video cassette, which serves as an access copy.

Additional materials related to the Beaufort Sea Expedition are located in the Eugene E. Collias Papers in the repository. Accession No. 5393-001 contains a diary and transcription documenting Professor Collias' involvement with the Beaufort Sea Expedition in 1952.
