Biographical Note

Mrs. MacGowan worked at Boeing during WWII. A college graduate in music, she has remained active in many music organizations, especially Seattle Young Artists.

Scope and Content

Tape recorded interview conducted in 1982; partial transcript; summary, 1982.

Mrs. MacGowan describes growing up in early-day Fauntleroy when there were only two houses. She recounts her teaching career, marriage and family. She was among the earliest Mountaineers and describes mountaineering in detail, including the beginnings of mountaineering classes and of REI Co-op.

The partial transcript includes an index to subjects covered on the tape.

Restrictions on Use

Creator's literary rights transferred to the University of Washington Libraries. Researchers may make brief quotations from interviews for non-commercial publications. More extensive quotation or commercial publication must be approved by the Director of Women Studies or the Director of the Women's Information Center at the UW or by the Director of Women Studies at Washington State University.
