Biographical Note
Grant McConnell was an early member of the North Cascades Conservation
Council and McConnell and his wife, Jane, promoted the creation of a national
park in the North Cascades. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, McConnell and
others in the Council pressed for preservation of the wild character of the
Stehekin Valley against practices they felt were unsound. He wrote a book,
"Stehekin, a Valley in Time," and was active in the Stehekin Valley Protection
