Born in 1874 in Ehime, Japan, Yamashita emigrated to the U.S. in 1893, and studied at Tacoma High School and at the University of Washington where he graduated from Law School in 1902. He passed the state bar exam in 1902 but was not allowed to practice law for racial reasons. He managed restaurants and hotels in Seattle and Bremerton and an oyster business in Silverdale. With his family he was incarcerated at Tule Lake, Manzanar, and Minidoka during World War II and then lived in Seattle. In 1957, he returned with his wife Ito to Japan and died in Yawatahama in 1959.
Microfilm primarily of 881 photographs of family members and friends as well as school records, a handwritten will (1893) and a passport (1927).
