He stayed for a time in the U.S., attending craft schools in Cincinnati, OH, and Philadelphia, PA. He, did, however, returned to Germany to graduate from Berlin's Royal Art School in 1896. Following graduation, Meyer left Germany for good, settling in Stockton, CA, where he became the Director of Art in the public schools. Following his marriage in 1902, Meyer moved to San Francisco, CA, where he opened his own store designing furniture.

Meyer practicing in Los Angeles contemporaneously;
