Kachlein, George F., House, Broadmoor, Seattle, WA

ID: 14972
Construction Date: End Date: 1933
Notes: According to architectural historian Meredith Clausen: "The George F. Kachlein house...built in 1933 in Broadmoor, was again traditional, this time a simplified Georgian style. Thiry carefully adapted it to the site; each major room opens onto a terrace or garden, allowing ample interior light and establishing a rapport between interior spaces and the outdoors. The Kachlein house shows the grwoing predilection for simplified forms and reduced trim that was emerging national in the 1930s and was paralleled in Thiry's work." (See Meredith L. Clausen, "Paul Thiry The Emergence of Modernism in Northwest Architecture," Pacific Northwest Quarterly, 75:3, 07/1984, p. 131.)
