Notes: Having opened 3/1/1913, the Vermont Square Branch has the distinction of being the first permanent branch library building in the Los Angeles Public Library System, and the first of six Carnegie buildings built in Los Angeles; L.A. Historic Cultural Monument #264, declared: 6/7/83; the building is an interesting amalgam of Italian Renaissance Revival Style details and Prairie Style influences; it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, Building #87001022;
Alteration Note: The library sustained damage in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake and re-opened to the public 5/11/1996;
