Title: University of Washington Expertise and Resources for the Puget Sound Watershed: Inventory of Activities: July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2005
Author: University of Washington Earth Initiative; University of Washington Water Center; College of Ocean and Fishery Sciences
Abstract: The University of Washington is working to provide knowledge and resources for long-term environmental solutions within Puget Sound and beyond. Ensuring that this information is synthesized and communicated effectively is critical to our role as a major research university. With over $140 million annually in research funding for hundreds of projects focusing on the environment and natural resources, providing a catalog of what is being done at the UW is a crucial first step. This project produced an inventory of the activities and capabilities of the UW in the Puget Sound watershed to (1) enable decision-makers and the public to better utilize UW resources; (2) identify areas of convergence and of missing expertise; (3) allow us to answer questions about what the UW is doing in Puget Sound; and (4) position the UW to address the most important environmental problems in the region. The inventory will be available online as a comprehensive meta-database that will allow users to search for information on UW environmental activities in the region.
