Readme:

Data collected as part of the Marginal Ice Zone project (apl.uw.edu/miz), included as .mat files:

7. ADCP_Sections.mat

All files contain Matlab-readable data structures. Files 1 to 4 (uCTD.mat, NII_Met_Data.mat, and Sonic.mat) contain L2 processed data from: (1) the Ocean Science underway profiling system (uCTD); (2) shipboard measured ADCP aboard Norseman II; (3) shipboard measured meteorological data aboard Norseman II (binned to 10 minute intervals); and (4) shipboard mounted sonic anemometer processed using the inertial dissipation method (Large and Pond, 1981).

Files 5 to 7 (COARE_Results.mat, uCTD_Sections.mat, ADCP_Sections.mat) contain additional derived data products.  COARE_Results.mat is a Matlab-readable data structure that results from application of the COARE bulk algorithms (v3.5; Edson et al., 2013; Fairall et al., 2003) to the shipboard meteorological data, using bulk surface water temperature derived from the uCTD, and downwelling radiation fluxes from Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications version 2 (MERRA-2; Gelaro et al., 2017).  uCTD_Sections.mat is a structure-array that organizes uCTD data into cross-front sections (in variables y and z).  uCTD_Sections.mat contain smoothed fields of conservative temperature (CT), absolute salinity (SA), and potential density anomaly (Sigma).  ADCP_Sections.mat follows the same protocol as uCTD_Sections.mat to create smoothed fields of velocity (uf,vf) and vertical shear (dudz,dvdz) in the coordinate system of the front (for coordinate system definition see Brenner et. al., 2020 [accepted] Figure 1c).
