Spring time abundance and community structure of dinoflagellates in Barkley Sound, BC
Abstract
The objective of this research was to determine the community structure and abundance of dinoflagellates in Barkley Sound, BC during early spring in order to determine if potentially harmful dinoflagellates were present. One potentially harmful dinoflagellate genus was observed. Dinophysis sp. was seen at one station in both Trevor Channel and Effingham Inlet. This suggests that springtime abundance of dinoflagellates should be monitored in order to better understand harmful algal blooms.
