dc.description.abstract Architects need analytical tools to evaluate the performance of their designs. Although a wide spectrum of evaluative tools is available, there is a general lack of designer friendly approaches. Architectural lighting analysis tools currently used in the profession incorporate several useful features, but most of them require specialized knowledge of scripting, and they lack intuitive and interactive user interfaces. The nature of these tools and data obtained are fragmented in nature. The objective of this thesis is to develop a user friendly tool (hdrscope) that can process and analyze High Dynamic Range (HDR) photographs and simulation results from Radiance Lighting Simulation and Visualization software. This new software (hdrscope) helps lighting designers, architects, researchers and academics to perform automated HDR image capture, HDR image processing, statistical analysis, glare evaluation and visualization of the lighting distributions in the space. The aim of hdrscope is to make architectural lighting analysis accessible by enabling wider usage for both entry level users as well as experts. en_US
