Permanent growth characteristics of alloy cast iron when exposed to a temperature gradient.

The object of this investigation was to determine the growth characteristics of cast iron with varying alloy additions, when exposed to a temperature gradient and to repeated heating. That is, it was to measure the change in length, and the sagging, caused in the various specimens by alternate heating and cooling, the heat being applied on one side of the specimen only, as occurs in a stove top or a hot air furnace. The main idea was merely to get a general conception of the comparative merits of the various alloys of cast iron under actual heating conditions.
