dc.description.abstractThis research explores the non-linguistic challenges affecting the integration and outcomes of newcomer students at school. Three themes were identified: the specific challenges affecting newcomers' outcomes, the classroom practices that are effective in creating positive outcomes, and the school and community programs that are effective in creating positive outcomes. The paper goes on to examine how practices in a Pacific Northwest school district could be aligned with research and then explores implications for future research and transformed practice.
