Should I share this? : support awareness of social sharing practice that might compromise online privacy and reputation
MetadataShow full item record
People on social media share information about themselves or others to maintain and expand their relationships. In doing so, they can put at risk their privacy and the privacy of people they know. The intentional or unintentional posting of inappropriate content online can lead to serious social, professional and even legal ramifications, depending on the nature and severity of the shared content. This project investigates how various social media products implement user interfaces that help users manage their privacy preferences and the gap between the way they actually manage their privacy and reputation organically in the course of using said products. Additionally, this project demonstrates how design can help support awareness of social media sharing practices that might compromise online privacy and reputation. This resulting design and research insights from this project aim to shape a new model of these virtual and social interactions.
