    Abstract
This project utilizes a qualitative design to study Latino students' perceptions regarding their schooling and life experiences based on environmental forces and factors which aide in molding their individual character. More specifically, the study asks the following questions: (1) What are the participating Latino students' perceptions of their schooling experiences and nature of their learning environments? (2) What social, cultural, and family influences have helped shape their (participants') perceptions on schooling and learning environments? (3)What school policies and practices affect the learning environments for Latino students and how do they perceive them? (4) How have their perceptions of schooling affected or not affected their self identify formation? (5) What suggestions do the participants have on how to improve Latino academic achievement in their school?
