Abstract
With recent advances in printing for flexible electronics, the demand for flexible energy storage systems with large power densities are required. While traditional Lithium ion battery systems cannot support these flexible devices, the Zinc-air system with its high energy and power density, is a very promising alternative. However, its widespread application is limited by issues caused by traditionally used alkaline electrolytes which effectively amputates long term cycling. To this end, a new and a non-toxic and inexpensive class of electrolytes are studied. These aprotic non-aqueous electrolytes are expected to improve surface integrity of zinc electrodes over cycling. This work aims to examine the morphology of the disassembled electrode and issue a statement on the viability of this electrolyte.
