Abstract
As ship scrapping became more difficult in Western countries due to regulation and high employee costs, companies outsourced to India and Bangladesh. This paper focuses on the Alang shipbreaking yard, where workers have few protections and the work is done with hand tools. Complex questions of international legal regimes, globalization and the needs of developing countries are explored.
