Development of Facilities for the Testing of Shear Stress Sensors
Abstract
This thesis explains the design and validation process of three facilities constructed to enable development of novel shear stress measurement devices. Three facilities were designed, constructed and tested to progressively test the sensor: a calibration chamber to apply a mechanical shear stress under various temperatures and pressures, an impinging jet to test the sensor under an aerodynamic shear stress, and finally, a hypersonic wind tunnel in which the performance criteria will be tested in combination.
