Patrick Christie, Associate Professor in the UW School of Marine Affairs and the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, will present an introduction to the coral reefs and fisheries of the Philippines, which are the most biodiverse in the world and very overexploited. He will also present an overview of the ambitious marine conservation/fisheries management agenda taking place in the Philippines, including the post-colonial mess, incredible talent and commitment, and global leaders in Marine Protected Areas. Included will be a presentation of empirical research from Dr. Christie's Pew fellowship on Marine Protected Areas (MPA) networks and the human dimensions of community-based conservation efforts, including human incentives and behavior around Marine Protected Areas.en_US
