Abstract

Rations is a speculative fiction novella that explores what pushes someone to seek escape beyondsurvival. Set around a gas station in the midst of a surrealist re-envisioning of the United States west coast, this story aims to ask the question of how ever-growing corporate entities are impacting the world we know. Using contemporary issues, complicated interpersonal relationships, and a sci-fi esque world, this work is meant to bend expectations of what it means to work the night shift. This piece of fiction is accompanied by an Artist’s Statement, delving into the research and inspirations that were addressed in this work.
