This thesis explores concepts of empire. It explores the complexity of international relations between empires - called "imperial intersections". The thesis explores the construction of Russian railways, their fundamental importance to the industrialization of the Russian Empire, and their role in the Franco-Russian Alliance. This thesis discusses French influence on the construction of Russian railways and its significance for the Russian Empire.
