Abstract

Tape recording transcript (and translation) of Wan Phra’ Services at Wat Sāēn Thông, Mae Sariang; lay leader requesting sermon; two monks perform sermons. A Charles F. Keyes Field Notebook excerpt: "[I have recorded the service almost in its entirety.] Here all of the congregation was elderly people, no more than 20, with a preponderance of women. The service (without the feeding of the monks) was much the same as the one we attended previously in the day (not recorded), although chanting style was slightly different and the sermons considerably so since they were in kammüang rather than in Thai. The service was the usual “morning worship” followed by saibāt. There were two sermons, one by a priest who was only to give a sermon and then promptly retire, and the other by the abbot of the wat. After the sermons came the truat nām and the service was over."
