DE/ANGULAR WORLDING: Queer Formal Experimentations in Shi’i Material Culture as Queer Futurity

Abstract

De/Angular experiments at the cross path of queer futurity and Shi’i material culture using digital media tools. Drawing on José Esteban Muñoz’s concept of disidentification, the project engages with virtual environment, electronic textiles, and multi-channel sound to create an installation as a speculative site through which dominant Shi’i aesthetic regimes are reconfigured. De/Angular asks what forms of world-making and relationality become possible when the visual, sonic, and material languages that sustain structures of authority are fractured from within.Positioning making as a mode of thinking, De/Angular treats experimentation as knowledge production. Through embodied and affective encounters with materials, the work advances production of tacit knowledge that resists mere discursive articulation. In doing so, it enters conversations in gender studies and digital arts by foregrounding sensation, material intimacy, and the non-linear transmission of meaning as critical sites of inquiry.
