Abstract

Cable companies’ historical dominance in the TV market is eroding away with the rise of telephone companies and streaming video providers offering similar services. Consumers who value cost, content, and convenience are drawn to these new players that meet their needs. My project sheds light onto an increasingly complicated TV industry. I analyze the top two players and their services in each category: cable, telephone, and streaming video companies. Moreover, the proposed merger between the two largest cable companies is harbinger of more industry upheavals and consolidation. I include my predictions about who will come out ahead in the TV market. For the other players, I recommend alternative businesses areas to expand in. This paper is important to read because it is relevant to most consumers and the technology discussed may change not only the way we receive our entertainment, but also how we communicate and conduct business online.
