Abstract

Booth will review development in the Puget Sound region. He will ask: have landscape-scale changes resulted in a landscape-scale of mitigation? The answer: not exactly. Mainly, we use end-of-pipe detention systems. Even with water detention, hydrograph changes and their consequences are still significant. Booth will present some low-impact alternatives, such as rain gardens, bioretention swales, green roofs, and permeable pavements. Booth will conclude by reviewing the current global warming trends, and discussing stormwater management strategies in context.
