Abstract

Miller will present the case that large wood is an important component for development of high-quality aquatic habitat. He will present ways to incorporate large wood into streams. He will consider several questions,including:1. How will different management alternatives influence future wood abundance? 2. How important are upland wood sources? 3. Where are the best locations for harvest restrictions to ensure future sources of in-stream wood? 4. Where are the best locations for silviculteral treatments to enhance wood recruitment? What should those treatments be? 5. How do current and future wood loads compare to those that would exist under a natural disturbance regime? 6. What are appropriate targets for wood abundance? 7. Where are the best locations for in-stream wood placement?
