This dissertation explores the economic effects of the 1998 massive coral bleaching on Indonesian households. The first chapter explores the effects on income and labor-related outcomes among fishery households. Results suggest a 27 % reduction in income in the short run as well as a short-run increase in migration, and long-run changes in labor supply. Given the income shock and the shock to the fish resource, effects on various consumption categories among the fishery group were investigated in the second chapter. Finally, the third chapter discusses how the effects observed among the fishery households spill over to other households in the economy.
