Abstract

Listen Closely is a hybrid novel that explores the landscape of the subconscious through nightmares and memories, fears and hopes alike. Taking to heart the notion that dreams are where we rehearse our greatest anxieties and weaving this idea with the concept of the “memory palace,” the novel unfolds through a tour of a house in which each object serves as a jumping-off point for a story or poem. Shaped by grief and haunted by the desire to make sense of loss, this project blurs the lines between lived experience and nightmare. As the narrator moves throughout the home, following the music of their mind, they confront the unresolved, the hidden, and the echoes of what cannot be let go.
