Much has been written about Jews in the Soviet Union in general, but little attention has been paid to the particular problem of the Jewish Autonomous Province of Birobidjan. The purpose of this study is to present an analysis of Soviet Policy toward Birobidjan. Actually, the major part of the analysis is focused primarily on the reasons for creating the experiment, the Jewish colonization movement during this time, and the reasons for the apparent failure of the project.en_US
