First Ladies of the United States provide a sense of stability and care to the nation. They are held up as role models for women of their time and teach us the value of emotional labor in times of turmoil. Eleanor Roosevelt and Michelle Obama are the epitome of these ideals; albeit they had vastly different strategies of deploying them. This is a comparative study of how the two used the office of FLOTUS as a catalyst to encourage women to live boldly.
