Touching Trees

Abstract

Touching Trees is a non-linear “novel” in homage to Richard Brautigan’s Trout Fishing in America. The forty-seven chapters of this work echo the forty-seven chapters in Brautigan’s “novel.” Like the original, it draws on surrealism, whimsy, and is set in the natural world. While there is no story in the traditional sense, there is a thread that guides the reader through this disjointed landscape of delighting in a natural world of quirky characters and surprise encounters. This work is set in both the natural world and a dream world where the unnamed narrator encounters mystery and surprise. Touching Trees weaves together the threads of a narrative of disparate and disjointed pieces to create an alternate world for the reader to encounter.
