The Other Mouth

Abstract

The Other Mouth is a lyrical bridge between the abstract shadow and the Self, weaving together esoteric musings, memory, mediumship, and the intersections of grief and desire. Through autobiographical poetry and collage, The Other Mouth is layered by voices of the poet, deity, and creature alike, embodying the mouth as an entity which not only speaks, but consumes and swallows. Comprised of four sections, this book journeys from choking and gnawing, to tasting and savoring. The poems are both linear and playful, at times shapeshifting, coupling, opening. Moved by the materiality of language and the senses, Greco-Roman Mythology, and imagery both metaphorical as well as tactile, the landscape of this collection is grounded although surreal, dreamy although tangible, vast and unending.
