Over the years, historians have produced a number of fine works on various aspects of the Washington State labor movement. Unfortunately, they have tended to concentrate their attentions on a few incidents, organizations, and issues. In particular, they have examined and re-examined the Industrial Workers of the Wor1d, the Seattle general strike, and the prevalence of political radicalism in the labor movement. The purpose of this paper is to add continuity and perspective to these scattered efforts and, with original research, to fill in the interstices in our knowledge of the early history of the Washington State labor movement.en_US
