This report presents a wide range of statistics on labor market inequalities by gender and race specific to Pierce County (Washington State). The analysis focuses on various measures of labor market outcomes: labor market participation rates, employment ratios, occupational structure, earnings, and poverty rates. These document the existing inequalities in the labor market. We also present data on some underlying pre-labor market causes of labor market inequalities: individuals' educational attainment and family background characteristics. We give an overview of the available data sources, and summarize the key findings by gender and race. The statistics are presented as comparisons between Pierce County, King County, and Washington state, for the year 2018, as well as trends over time. We conclude the report by discussing avenues for further research based on the key questions that emerge, which could present the basis for better targeted local policymaking.
