dc.description.abstractSet in the swells of history, Beginners tells the story of Ellipsis, three dots with nothing to do. A visit from The Universe prompts Ellipsis to return to work on her island. She needs men–and God is sent to help. What follows is the parody of a grand project where the likes of Christopher Columbus, James Cook, and Ferdinand Magellan find themselves on the same ship, fighting for the command of their first voyage of discovery and the imagined promise of their myriad destinations. Meanwhile, the contestants on a TV show wait patiently for love . . .
