| dc.description.abstract | Greater Kent Historical Society (GKHS), which runs Kent Museum in Kent, WA has recently updated their interpretive plan to better represent their growing and extremely diverse community. My project is a model of an exhibit that fits this new interpretation plan, is representative of several local organizations, and serves as an example for future exhibits in the newly-cleared space. The Kent Museum does a wonderful job of teaching earlier pioneer history through its current exhibitions. However, the museum is looking to represent modern residents more accurately by featuring a community focused exhibit on the first floor. This exhibit will fill the gap between historical exhibits and those featuring current Kent communities. I completely prepared didactic panels for an exhibit about community members showing unity and bravery in the face of unprecedented times: the COVID-19 pandemic. I also created an outline for future GKHS volunteers who want to create exhibits to ease and quicken their planning process. This COVID-19 exhibit was an idea generated by the community, was able to be planned for a new space, and will help future volunteers continue to achieve GKHS’ goals. | |
