This paper examines the cinematic representation of Spanish emigration in three films released between 2005-2015. The analysis is focused on Un franco, 14 pesetas (2006) directed by Carlos Iglesias, Las chicas de la sexta planta (2010) directed by Philippe Le Guay, y Perdiendo el norte (2015) directed by Nacho García Velilla. Examined through the lens of theories presented by Jacques Rancière and William Connolly moments of “dissent” in these three films indicate the direction contemporary conversations about immigration are taking by establishing parallels between modern immigrants and the stories of emigration presented.
