Abstract

Francis will address the question: What are the consequences of lakeshore development for aquatic habitats, communities, and food webs? She will describe research comparing developed lakes to undeveloped lakes. This research examines several factors, such as algae, septic system and sewer effluents, nutrients, reduction of woody debris, depletion of riparian forests and habitats, sediment organic matter, invertebrate community shifts, fish diet and growth, and benthic carbon.
