Activating Daybreak Star

Abstract

This work is the result of a collaboration with the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center and the department of Urban Design and Planning at the University of Washington. The goal of this relationship is to develop a comprehensive, engaging, and informative walking tour that connects the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center, located in Discovery Park, with other culturally significant sites throughout the City of Seattle. This studio conducted archival research, literature review, and site visits to inform the history and ongoing presence of Seattle's urban indigenous community and subsequently proposed a series of routes that constitute the walking tours. The project additionally include design recommendations for signage, wayfinding, and placemaking along the various sites.
