Based on the Global Impact Study of Public Access to ICTs, this infographic explains visually why public access to technology matters for development. Public access provides a critical foundation for lifelong technology use and participation in the information society. Public access venues provide pathways for people to achieve various benefits, and the venues are there when people need them. Even doing fun, leisurely activities on public access computers can lead to benefits in other areas, including development domains. In addition to the direct impacts of public access ICTs, these venues also have indirect impacts on the communities they serve. Finally, and contrary to popular opinion, mobile phones have not replaced public access venues. Public access matters around the world.en_US
